New Delhi: The Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) has implemented strict measures against industries operating in areas not designated for industrial activities. During a recent enforcement operation, 84 complexes were sealed, and electricity and water supply were cut off at seven locations. Non-conforming industrial areas are those where industries operate without proper zoning. There are 26 such areas, with approximately 70% being industrialized. Some of these non-conforming areas are Khyala, Peeragarhi, Mundka, Hastsal, and Anand Parbat. The Delhi government is revitalizing some of these areas to boost the city's economy, create employment opportunities, and support industrial units. MCD teams inspected 520 units in non-conforming zones in August and September to ensure compliance with regulations. Licensing officers also inspected 215 factories in conforming areas, finding 43 operating without proper licenses. After notice was given, 31 factories applied for licenses, while MCD took steps to disconnect power and water supply for the remaining units that did not respond in due time. A verification drive is also ongoing to monitor units relocated from residential to industrial areas following the MC Mehta vs Union of India case.
